Westernization refers to the adoption of "Western" (Western Europe and North America) culture by societies in other regions of the world. This term is subject to debate, as there is no consensus on what constitutes western culture. Moreover, there is no agreement on which countries can be included in the category of "western," or in the differences between westernization and modernization. However, the adoption of the culture of a dominant country has been a common occurrence throughout history, and especially during colonial times.
