Monasteries were the centers of art and learning

  • Christian monasticism is said to have started far back during the 3rd century in Egypt  when some men and women decided to live a secluded life  to choose a life with their creator, God.
  • With time, Monasticism spread across countries  and became a center for worship to  the religious communities and wealthy visitors who were fascinated about the monk's way of life.

  • Because of the increase in wealth of the monasteries, the monks improved the monasteries to be a centre to make prayer more appreciable using arts .This can be seen in the Famous  art, Leonardo’s Last Supper.
